(The layer deeds have been permanently removed from the game.)
I don't use them often, and I am not sure of all the rules that apply to them. What I mainly use them for is replacing a character's cloth items with robes of luck.
As an example I'll switch a robe of luck into a sash.
You can get a robe of luck from the rewards book in the NH craft hall, they are 250 crafting coins.
You then need a layer deed to switch it from the robe layer to, for this example, the middle torso (sash). If you are unsure what layer the piece is going to be find or make the intended piece and click on it with the layer deed. It will tell you what layer it is and then you can click cancel to not use the deed. When you have the correct layer click ok
Now use a Outfit Customization Deed to switch the robe of luck to a sash. Layer Deeds and Outfit Customization Deeds can be found in the Narrowhaven Adventurer's tent. To do this you will need a sample sash, either crafted, bought or loot. You will target the item you want to keep but change the apperance of first and then target the sample item. The second item WILL BE DESTROYED, so double check everything before you click ok.
Click ok when you are sure you have it correct and you now have a sash of luck, though it will still say robe, yes you could probablly change the name but it never seemed worth the crafting coins or doubloons to me.
I usually add amber socket gems to get +3 all resists. You can use one legendary and one ancient which will use all 5 available sockets. It is a good way to bump your resists up while leaving the armor/jewelry sockets available as they can take a much wider variety of socket gems and legendary and ancient amber is more available then a mythic socket gem.
