It had been awhile since we had done a patrol into the Abyss and Sir Aidan had a few areas he wanted to investigate. So he put out a call to the Vigilants and had a excellent turnout. It is always a pleasure to hunt with my brother knights and sister Vigilants. We met in Castle Hell Gate and after a brief gathering we set off for the Underworld. Taking the surface route we ran into the usual monsters and a host of new ones, ugly spiders, some the size of my fist, others larger then my horse! A wide variety of ophidians who have recently made the valley their home. We cut through them as quickly as we could and entered the Underworld. Again finding cultisits throughout the ruined halls. We marched through the broken ruins quickly. We had a large party and had no trouble making our way to the stairs leading down into the Abyss.
The Abyss is different. Our numbers seemed small when compared to the hordes of foes awaiting us. We started well, felling the orcs and cultists that assailed us as we made our way to Sir Aidan's first objective. A strange ruin with a large dark carved stone in the center and four pathes set to the compass leading to it. Unusual obsidian statues guarded each path that lead into the center. The place was guarded by a pair of elder balrons and many fire beasts. A few of us had some issues in the tight quarters, I was knocked from my feet but my brothers and sisters in arms rallied and got me back upright. We cleared the area and spent a short time investigating the site but found little to tell us the significance of the stone in the center. Sir Aidan decided to have us head towards his second goal. As we moved out we passed a platform with a pair of bodies impaled upon spikes and large poles with shackles hanging from them. We marched on in silence.
We quickly made our way along the dark paths of the Abyss and came upon forifications of the dark orcs that inhabit much of the Abyss. We made quick work of the orcs we came upon but as we rounded a bend we were surpiresed to find a crimson dragon blocking our path. We formed up and charged the beast, perhaps catching it by surprise, and fortunately dispatched it without suffering any serious injuries. Strangely enough many green patches of grass lead us to our goal. A bridge over swampy water that was guarded by many poison elementals. By this time we had found our rythmn, Lemine's bow sang as half our knights switched to crossbows and throwing glaives. The other half bravely charging the elementals, meeting them at tthe shore of the water and cutting them down. We rejoined forces and crossed the old bridge. I am not sure what Sir Aidan expected to find but we came upon a relatively quite clearing. Some broken columns on the center of the clearing and a old stone platform in the center of it all. Aside from a chest that with stood all attempts to open it, not even the mighty blows of Sir Highblood's axe could open it, there was not much to see.
Even though we did not find much at the second site the first was very interesting and any information we discover about the Abyss is useful. Tired from our toil we wished one another safe travels and each made our way back to the surface.
