The available Vigilants assembled at the Forge. Our task was to attempt to use one of the Serpent Pillars to sail to the Lost Lands. Growing up in Trinsic I had often heard tales of the Pillar to the east but I did not know of anyone who had successful used it. I wanted to give it a try. I also wanted to attempt to make a trade agreement with either Papua, or Delucia, or both, to provide us with supplies if needed. I called upon our fisherman, Caderyn Helmgard, to sail us to the pilalr and through the Lost Lands. We met and greeted one another at the Forge and went over our kit one last time. I did not know if we would besuccessful on reaching the Lost Lands and I did not know how long this journey would take us. Years ago I had spent a good deal of time in Delucia but I had not traveled much beyond it's boundaries, the rest of the Lost Lands were a mystery to myself and some of the other Vigilants.
We loaded our gear on the ship and stowed it in the hold. Captain Helmgard set sail and after a few adjustments he had us on course for the pillar. We sighted a few sea serpents and even a kraken but for the most part our Captain was able to dodge the denziens of the sea and after a time we arrived at the Serpent Pillar. I'm not sure how he managed to keep the ship in place but he did long enough for us all to examine the pillar. It's construction is amazing. Very detailed, it almost looks as though the serpent will uncoil and strike. I have no clue as to the material used for its construction. I looked to the others and cleared my throat before saying the magic word to activate the pillar. Upon uttering "Doracron" we quickly found ourselves displaced. I did not feel anything myself, but the sudden absence of the Serpent Pillar was the first clue that we had succeded.
The sudden transition from one body of water to another though did have an affect on our ship. Somehow our tiller was damaged making it very difficult to turn. The Captain suggested we make for the nearest land and he and his first mate would attempt repairs. We all agreed, none of us liking the idea of a swim. The crew somehow managed to get us to shore, for the most part, safely. Aidan, Siara and I disembarked and were almost immediately set upon by a headless creature and a lizardman. We dispatched them quickly and cleanly. Damir joined us on the shore and we set off in different directions to check the immediate area. There were a few reapers and trolls, a ettin and even a pair of gazers. There was also a wide variety of peaceful inhabitants. Forest ostards, lamas, and such.
Once the perimeter was secure Sir Aidan and Siara set about makinga camp. Sir Damir and I ranged a bit farther out to check the lands. Eventually meeting up again we discussed how plentiful the woods were but we shared some concernt hat no clean water had been found.
We headed back to the camp. I for one was surprised how quickly Aidan and Siara had set up a excellent camp. Siara had even begun to gather food. Captain Helmgard ran up, calling for us. He had made some progress on repairing the ship but needed some logs to complete it. I did not see Damir but I knew he was best suited for this task, though he was used to hewing greater threats then trees with his axe. Sir Aidan, Siara and I split up to go look for logs and sir Damir. I found a few logs on a reape we had felled earlier. I than ran into Damir, who had already heard of the request for logs and was well on his way to having collected twice what we needed.
He and I hauled the logs back to the ship. The Captain was very happy with the raw materials and promised to have us on our way in an hour or less. Sir Damir and I made our way back to the camp to tell the others. We walked past a few more fallen beasts and found Sir Aidan and Siara resting at the camp. We quickly joined them and shared the news that the ship would eb sea worthy again shortly. I took the time to admire the surrondings and to appreciate the fine camp. The two would have made good rangers, and I told them so witha smile.
The time passed quickly and Captain Helmgard came to collect us before the hour was over. We packed up camp and climbed bacl aboard the ship. Our plan now was to sail to Papua. We would rest the knight and see about arranging a trade agreement the next day, perhaps take in some of the surrondings. When we reached Papua the Captain said he would stay with the ship and double check it's condition as we wearily made our way to the inn.
It was a good start to our adventure in the Lost Lands.
