On the morning of our second day in the Lost Lands I awoke early and went out on my own to seek the Mayor of Papua. Papua is a small village and I soon found one of the Mayors advisors who informed me that the Mayor was unavailabe as he was dealing with the disapperance of his son. A young man who fancied himself a mage and an adventurer. The lad had set off for the Terathan Keep in search of treasure. He had left a note for his parents and had not been seen or heard from for two days now. Papua does not have a town guard or a militia. The citizens are a hardy and brave bunch but they do not have the numbers or the equipment to venture into the Keep. I informed the advisor that my fellow Vigilants and I would search the Keep for the Mayor's lost son.
I found Knight-Initiate Siara at our agreed upon meeting site, the Papua Mage Shop, and we were soon joined by Sir Aidan and fortunately our numbers were reinforced by Sir Ikon and the Ranger Lemine. Sir Damir, who had done the heavy work chopping down trees the day before, had fallen prey to one of the many Lost Lands sicknesses. Though he insisted on coming with I ordered him to remain in Papua and rest. If we did not return in a day or two he would have to use the portal in the mage shop and seek out Sir Gregor and the remaining Vigilants and any other allies he could find to come after us.
After disussing the situation and our best course of action we set off. We had been told the Terathan Keep was to the west, almost a straight line as the crow flies. We soon learned there are no straight lines in the Lost Lands. We hacked through the jungle, climbed up and down hills and berms and often had to back track and search out a new path. Initiate Siara had the best sense of direction and soon found a path for us to the Keep. Tired and sweating we regrouped and followed a broken road that circled around the Keep, again the Initate saved us from heading off in the wrong direction.
We encountered many of Ophidians along the path. We had learned on a earlier adventure to the Keep that the Ophidians and Terathans are constantly battling one another and the Ophidians often lay siege to the Terathan's Keep. We came to the entrance of the Keep and were immediately set upon by various terethans. We managed to quickly dispatch them but for every terathan that fell two seemed to replace them. We fought our way through the surface levels of the Keep searching for the Mayor's son. Finding no sign of the man we agreed to go into the sub levels of the Keep. Climbing precariously down thick rope ladders we found ourselves once again set upon by hordes of Terathans. We did a roving search of the area as we fought. Swords and war axe swinging continously, the hum of Lemine's bow as she fired arrow after arrow we made our way through the main hall and into some tight hallways filled with more monsters. Daemons and dragons charged us. A Balron waited around a corner for us...the enemies seemed endless. We did manage to clear the halls and moved on to a bridge that crossed a underground river. The halls were wider but heavy with webs and giant spiders. Again we fought and searched our way through, eventualyl coming out into a massive chamber. The centrral part of the chamber fell away into a swampy area with a bridge like structure running out into its center. The swampy area was thick with swamp and acid elementals. the raised ground surronding the swamp was swarming with Ophidians and Daemons. We fought, some of us were knocked from our feet but the others were always there to pull us back up. We made our way around the swamp, Lemine and Aidan even jumped down to engage the elementlas and the rest of us followed. We found oursleves in more grand hall ways the soon had us circling back and coming out into the large chamber again. Once again we engaged the Ophidians and other monsters. Our numbers were split into two parties. One forced down the long lifted walkway while the party was forced back towards the hall way. Both groups dispatched their enemies. Ikon and Aidan were on the walkway and found the teleporter to the Star Room. They also found the Mayor's son there. Weak and disheveled. He had somehow made it to the star room and, rightly so, feared leaving it again. He had been trapped alone for two days in the room. Siara, Lemine and I soon joined them. Lemine quickly offering the man food and drink from her pack.
Once we were sure the mayor's son could travel we attempted to leave the room. It was harder finding the way out then it had been finding the way in. But we managed...eventually. We retraced our steps and made our way back to the rope ladders leading to the surface. Again we encountered foes but their numbers had declined. We hurridly climbed the ladders and fought our way clear to the path. Again we trudged through the wilds of the Lost Lands and after much trial and error we eventually found ourselves back in Papua. The lad, who's name eludes me, thanked us repeatedly then followed our Ranger's suggestion and went to inform his parents that he was safe. Nodding tiredly to one another we said our farewells as we each sought rest from the days adventure.
